A hormone made from testosterone in the prostate, testes, and certain other tissues. It is needed to develop and maintain male sex characteristics, such as facial hair, deep voice, and muscle growth. Testosterone, a male hormone, is converted into DHT or Dihydrotestosterone in various tissues of the body and the skin. The enzyme 5 alpha reductase converts testosterone into its more potent form DHT. DHT is responsible for causing hair loss known as Androgenetic Alopecia and for stimulating the growth of body hair.
