Graphotype logo #21217Graphotype was a process for obtaining blocks for surface-printing invented by Witt Hitchcock in 1860. Drawings were made on blocks of chalk with a silicious ink. When the ink dried, the soft parts were brushed away leaving the drawing in relief and stereotypes could then be taken from the block.
