(tri″ni-tro-fe´nol) a substance used as dye, tissue fixative, antiseptic, astringent, and stimulant of epithelialization; its toxic effects are similar to those of dinitrophenol. It can be detonated on percussion or by heating above 300° C. Called also picric acid.
