The red grape variety (also North Carolina 153-1) is an interspecific new variety between Hunt x Magnolia. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis rotundifolia and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in North Carolina in 1957 by the breeder C. F. Williams. The variety is used as a wine press and table grape.
