Wireless Application Protocol defined by the WAP Forum now part of OMA (Open Mobile Alliance). WAP is a set of protocol standards for Internet style interactive services to handheld mobiles (contrast IMode). WAP comes in two major generations which have common application environment, WAE (wireless application environment). They differ substantially in the markup language and the underlying protocols they support. See WAP1 for the original versions and WAP2 for the revised versions.
