Originally came from Vienna over a hundred years ago. It had a lusty Waltz flavor but was not a closed ballroom dance but rather belonged to the Country dance group. It is said by some authorities that with the passage of time the Landler became the basis for our modern Waltz.
A landler is an Austrian peasant dance, similar to a slow waltz. The name is also given to the music played for the dance.
