The red grape variety (also called Bubbiarasso) originates from Italy. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2006, it is the result of a presumably natural cross between Nebbiolo x Bianchetta di Saluzzo. It is cultivated in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont. In 2016, however, no stock was reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
