
An obligatory gift, something owed, as a funeral was owed to the deceased. Originally it was a bloody fight which took place over the tomb of the deceased, who was to be revived by the blood of the combatants. Subsequently, it became the contribution of gladiatorial games made by a citizen to his community. Also a fatigue duty.
