
Mahaleb is a species of cherry (Cerasus Mahaleb), whose fruit affords a violet dye and a fermented liquor like kirsch-wasser. It is found in the middle and south of Europe. Its flowers and leaves are used by perfumers, and its wood by cabinet-makers.
