A college of 12 (later 24) priests attached to the worship of Faunus. On February 15 (Lupercalia), animals were sacrificed in the Lupercal (the cave where the she-wolf was supposed to have suckled Romulus and Remus). The festival combined fertility and purificatory rituals, and included flagellation.
