Scolytidae (formerly Ipidae) is the bark and ambrosia beetles family of insects of the order Coleoptera. The majority develop in the twigs, branches and trunks of deciduous and coniferous trees, and the family contains some of the most serious forest pests. Many of the species damage the wood directly and also help to transmit plant diseases. Found on http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/browse/BS.HTM
