The Rawalpindi was a British passenger liner. With the advent of the Second World War she was commandeered by the Royal Navy and converted into an armed merchant cruiser. On the 23rd of November 1939 she engaged the two German battle-cruisers Gneisenau and Scharnhorst and was sunk with the loss of 265 lives.
