The early electronic purse system developed by National Westminster Bank in the UK. Mondex was unusual amongst bank-owned electronic purse schemes in that the individual transactions were not reported back to the scheme owner, and transactions between purses was allowed. This made it closer to a true cash substitute than other schemes.
