Mobile number portability. MNP allows mobile subscribers to switch networks without changing their phone numbers. In GSM, the subscriber obtains a new SIM with a new IMSI but the SIM contains the old MSISDN (i.e. the phone number). MNP has been required by regulators in many countries to enhance competition between networks. Calls and MT SMS messages to the ported number must be re-routed from the original network, called the donor, to the new network, called the recipient. The portability routing techniques include OR (Onward Routing), CDB (Call drop back), GSM SR (Signaling relay) and the IN-related MNP techniques, ACQ (all call query) and QoR (query on release).
