LECAM logo #10444(= CD62L; LAM-1; L-selectin; MEL-14 antigen; leu-8) Leucocyte-endothelial cell adhesion molecule (37 kD polypeptide), a selectin, expressed on most haematopoietic cells and on mature monocytes, eosinophils and neutrophils. Important for initial adhesion step (margination) and is then rapidly lost from cell surface through activity of a membrane associated sheddase, a metalloproteinase. Important function is in lymphocyte homing to high endothelial venule in peripheral lymph nodes, Peyer&`s patches and areas of inflammation. Has N-terminal C-type lectin domain and binds particularly to carbohydrates on CD34, CD162, GlyCam and MAdCAM. ...
