Literarily meaining hip-cord, it is the name of cord/soft tie that is worn around the hips or waist to create the length adjusting fold on women's kimono or to hold a man's kimono closed as he ties hi obi. The shortening fold on a woman's kimono, held in place by the koshihimo, is called the ohashori
