The Dromon was a Byzantine war galley first recorded in the 11th century. The Dromon was about 40 metres long and had two masts with a crow's nest on the mainmast and was lateen rigged. Oars complimented the sails, with varying numbers of pairs of oars being fitted to different ships, between 21 and 50 pairs being recorded.
