The choanae are the posterior nasal apertures, visible in the inferior vier of the skull. The two choanae are separated by the posterior border of the vomer, and are evident at the rear of the palatine bones. Found on http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/browse/EC.HTM
Where the rear edge of the palate has a central projection (e.g. in dogs), the choanae are the indentations on each side.
