Caprimulgidae is the Nightjar or Goatsucker family of Fissirostral birds. They are characterized by a short beak, enormous wide gape; soft and loose plumage giving the birds an owl-like appearance; the habit is usually nocturnal, and the diet chiefly of insects caught on the wing.
