Camulodunum (Latin CAMVLODVNVM), the Ancient Roman name for the modern town of Colchester in Essex, was an important town in Roman Britain, and one time capital of the province. Founded as a Roman Legionary base on the site of the Celtic oppidum of Camulodunon (meaning `The Stronghold of Camulos`) in the AD40s, it is claimed to be the oldest tow.....
