Brancasaurus is an extinct genus of plesiosaur from the Early Cretaceous of what is now Germany. The type species is Brancasaurus brancai, first named by Wegner in 1914 in honor of German paleontologist Wilhelm von Branca. Brancasaurus A “Branca’s lizard” from Early Cretaceous Europe. Named in honor of Wilhelm von Branca (1844-1928), noted German paleontologist. It was discovered in Gronau, Westphalia, in west-central Germany. Named by Theodor Hubert Wegner in 1914.
