Filter lightsOnly enter the lane if you intend to go in the direction of the arrow. You may proceed in the direction of the green arrow when it or the full green light shows. Give other traffic especially cyclists, time and room to move into the correct lane.
Emergency vehiclesAn emergency vehicle is any vehicle that is designated and authorised to respond to an emergency such as the police, fire and ambulance. Double white linesIf the line nearest you is BROKEN then you may cross the lines to overtake if it is safe, providing you can complete the manoeuvre before you reach a solid white line. If the line nearest you is SOLID, you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You can overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16kph) or less.
DistractionsAvoid distractions when driving or riding such as load music, trying to read maps, inserting a CD or tuning a radio, arguing with a passenger, eating and drinking or smoking. You MUST NOT use a hand-held mobile phone or similar device when driving or when supervising a learner driver.
Direction indicatorsShow other road users which direction you intend to take. Correct use of the indicators is essential for safe driving. Always check that the indicators have cancelled after you have turned.
