Vesicular Structure
Caused where bubbles of gas escape from a magma leaving cavities, or vesicles, in the rock. If the vesicles are filled with secondary minerals they are called amygdales.

Vitreous
The lustre of broken glass, as in quartz and many of the silicates.

Wacke
A sandstone with 15 - 74% mud matrix per volume

Xenoliths
Pieces of other rock embedded in an igneous rock, usually fragments of host rock which fall into the magma.

K-cycle
A concept of land evolution involving the cyclic erosion of soils on upper slopes during unstable climatic phases and soil development during stable phases.

X - ray crystallography
The study of crystal structure using X ray techniques

Y Shear
A subsidary fault in a shear zone parallel to the shear direction.

Z fold
An asymmetrical fold with one limb shorter than the other whose profile defines a 'Z' shape.
