Membrane-anchored chemokine (395 amino acid residues in mouse, 397 in man) with unique CXXXC pattern (unlike a -chemokines, CXC; b -chemokines, CC; and g -chemokines, C). Neurotactin is predominantly expressed in brain and is up-regulated on capillary vessels and microglia in LPS-induced inflammation and EAE. Unlike other chemokines, gene is on Chromosome 8 (mouse) and 16q (man). Proteolytically-released soluble active fragments may be generated. Chemotactic for neutrophils.
