
It’s a climate within a climate. We garden by geographical hardiness zones, but within any zone there may be hot or cool spots. Within my garden, a south-facing exterior brick wall provides a protected growing area a zone warmer than the rest of my garden.

Microclimate can be applied to a variety of things. For our purposes, it is a spot within a garden that differs from the general environment. Some examples would be a wet spot where water collects during rain, a spot that remains warmer in the winter
