Drosophila homeotic gene. The forkhead gene family of transcription factors belong to the winged helix class of DNA-binding proteins. More than 40 members of the family have been identified and are involved in embryonic development, tumorigenesis and tissue-specific gene expression. The DNA-binding domain is of 100 amino acids and is referred to as the forkhead domain.
