The UTRA RAN (Radio Access Network) for UMTS, components are RNC (radio network controller, roughly equivalent to a GSM BSC), Node B (base station, very roughly equivalent to a GSM BTS) and UE (mobile, which will often be dual-mode, also acting as a GSM MS).
