(= Jun kinase; c-jun N-terminal kinase; stress-activated protein kinase; SAPK) Family of kinases involved in intracellular signalling cascades. JNKs are distantly related to ERKs and are activated by dual phosphorylation on tyrosine and threonine residues. In addition to c-jun will also phosphorylate p53. JNK1, 46 kD; JNK2 55 kD. JNK3 (464 residues) is mainly found in neurons and may play a part in regulation of apoptosis.
