Variance
This is a measurement of the difference between the target and result for each metric.

Performance Metric
This is how well an individual, organization, community or government is doing, (e.g. a batting average).

Result
This is the level of performance for each metric in the current time period.

Target
This is the direction (and amount) of desired change in performance over a specified time for a specific metric. Achieving a target could involve an increase, a decrease, or staying the same.

Themes
These groupings of Dashboard performance metrics reflect specific dimensions of community life that show the extent to which the Jewish community within the Greater Toronto Area is a thriving, caring, connected Jewish community. Performance metrics are organized under five themes: Jewish engagement; caring community; Israel connections; contributing to general communal capacity.

Performance Management
This is the activity involved in using performance measurement to improve performance of an individual, organization, government or community. It involves analyzing and interpreting performance measurement and using the performance metrics in making decisions.

Performance Measurement
This is the activity involved in collecting, organizing, presenting and updating performance metrics.

Modules
These are subdivisions of themes.

Metric
This is a measure or indicator (e.g. Fahrenheit is a metric for temperature).

Community Performance Metric
This is how well a community is doing. In assessing how well a community is doing it is helpful to be able to answer the question, “How well are we performing relative to what?”
