Ready-to-wear or prêt-à-porter
Term for factory-made clothing sold in finished condition in standardized sizes, versus clothing made to fit a particular person. Designs are often licensed out to support the luxury end of the label. Prêt-à-porter is the French equivalent.

Model
A person with a role either to promote, display, or advertise commercial products (notably fashion clothing), or to serve as a visual aid for people who are creating works of art.

Racism
The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Haute couture
Refers to exclusive, custom-fitted clothing that is constructed by hand from start to finish from high-quality, expensive, and often unusual fabric. The term `haute couture` is French: haute means `high` or `elegant,` couture means `sewing.`

Fashion
A popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior.

Civil rights
The rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality.

Croquis
(French for `sketch`) In fashion, a croquis is a rough outline sketch of a figure in various poses, used as a template for sketching apparel design ideas and fashion drawings.

Designer
A person who applies the art of design and aesthetics or natural beauty to clothing and accessories. Fashion design is influenced by cultural and social latitudes, and varies over time and place.

Activist
A person who campaigns for some kind of social change, which may involve protesting for a political or a social cause.
