Awning Stay
Type of stay used on a top hung projected window or hopper.

Awning Window
A window with an outward opening sash, hung about a horizontal axis at the top or on the friction stays at the sides.

Backcheck
The feature of a door closer that suppresses the end of the opening force reducing damage when the door is forcibly opened.

Backset
The horizontal distance from the face of the lock to the centre line of the cylinder, key hole, knob or lever hub.

Broad Butt Hinge
Where hinge leaves are wider than door or window thickness to give open door/ window a wide throw clearing exterior cladding.

Butt Hinge
A hinge where each leaf is equal and meets together giving effectively two (2) leaves thickness in closed position.

Casement Window
A window with a sash hung about vertical axis by hinges at the sides, or stays at the top and bottom.

Double-Hung Sash Window
A window with two sashes which slide vertically in a window frame.

Interfold Hinge
A hinge where one leaf of the hinge folds into the mid-section of the other leaf.

Patio Lock
A lock designed with a push button or turn knob inside to lock the outside knob or lever. When locked, there is no entrance from the outside, except by key.

Polesium™
A Trademark special blend polymer developed for use in moulding by Doric Products. Suitable for polyester powder coating.

Presslock
A lock where the cylinder or button is pushed into lock and requires a key to unlock.

Strike
A device fixed in or on a doorjamb into which the lock or latch bolt engages when the door is closed.

Ventlock
A window or door lock that allows the window or door to be deadlocked in a slightly open position for ventilation.
