an acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.
    Found on http://www.tulane.edu/~bmitche/book/glos

  6. Laser
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A laser produces a very parallel and coherent light (all wave fronts in phase) of a single frequency.

  7. laser
[n] - (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) optical device that produces an intense monochromatic beam of coherent light

  8. LASER
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/visitor-contrib

  9. Laser
Device which amplifies light and usually produces an extremely narrow intense beam of a single wavelength. Light Amplification by a Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

  10. LASER
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Usually referring to laser sights. These project a visible point of light (usually red or green) onto a target. Yet another reason the Americans are wrong to spell it 'Lazer'. It doesn't make any sense!

  11. Laser
The word laser was originally an abbreviation for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Lasers have countless applications, many in medicine and communications. Lasers produce light which is monochromatic, coherent and tightly focussed. Lasers are used in the technique of photocoagulation (used to treat retinae)

  12. Laser
Light Amplification by Simulated Emission of Radiation - a fine beam of light, sometimes with considerable energy, used in imagesetting, colour scanning, copy scanning, platemaking, engraving and cutting and creasing forme-making.
    Found on http://www.lithosphere.co.uk/content/glo

  13. laser
A very pure and intense beam of light formed within a crystal, or the device that creates the light. LASER stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/local/20581

  14. Laser
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. In fibre optics, laser diodes are widely used as light emitters, especially in singlemode and long haul systems. Light from laser diodes covers only a narrow band of wavelengths so that dispersion caused by differing light velocities in an optical fibre is substantially reduced.

  15. Laser
An acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. A device that uses stimulated emissions to produce a coherent beam of electromagnetic radiation.Common types of lasers include solid state (glass or cystalline bulk material), semiconductor (based on p-n junctions), and gas lase...

  16. LASER
Light Amplification through Stimulated Emission of Radiation - a device that amplifies light waves and concentrates them in a narrow, very intense beam of energy.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/local/20715

  17. laser
Laser (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) is a light amplifier usually used to produce monochromatic coherent radiation in the infrared, visible, and ultraviolet regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

  18. Laser
Acronym for light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation.A laser is an intense source of light with a very narrow range of wavelengths. The intense light is given off when many ions are stimulated and simultaneously emit a photon at the same wa

11 February 2012

This day in history:
On 11th February, 1858, a 14 year old French peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous claimed to have seen visions of the Virgin Mary at her native Lourdes. She also revealed that the waters of a spring near a grotto in Lourdes had been given healing powers by the Virgin. Eventually, the Roman Catholic church decided that the visions were authentic. Franz Werfel wrote the novel, Song of Bernadette, based on the story of Bernadette's visions. read more
