Kilohertz (1000 hertz)

KHz

A thousand Hz = one thousand cycles per second. A measure of radio or audio frequency. Mobile telecommunications systems typically operate at much higher radio frequencies, several hundred MHz or in the GHz range. In the audio range, a codec will be required to handle sound frequencies up to a few KHz for voice and a few tens of KHz for music.
