Look up: ergodic

  1. Ergodic
The property of a dynamical system such that all regions of a state space are visited with similar frequency and that all regions will be revisited (within a small proximity) if given enough time.

  2. ergodic
A more precise formulation of the concept of randomness. With an ergodic series of data there is no memory, no correlation with past data, so each new data point adds the same amount of new information.

  3. ergodic
a random noise with identical time and statistical mean values Category: Mathematics • an alternative name for a state of a Markov chain which is both aperiodic and persistent Category: Mathematics • generally, this word denotes a property of certain systems which develop thro...

  4. ergodic
System or process in which the final state is independent of the initial state.

  5. ergodic
<radiobiology> A mathematical term meaning space-filling. If a magnetic field is ergodic, any field line will eventually pass arbitrarily close to any point in space. Closely related to chaotic. ... (09 Oct 1997) ...

  6. ergodic
adjective positive recurrent aperiodic state of stochastic systems; tending in probability to a limiting form that is independent of the initial conditions

  7. ergodic
Informally: a stochastic process is ergodic if no sample helps meaningfully to predict values that are very far away in time from that sample. Another way to say that is that the time path of the stochastic process is not sensitive to initial conditions. Two events A and B (e.g. possible sets of sta...

  9. ergodic
pertaining to a random function the temporal mean values of which are identical to the corresponding statistical mean values

  10. ergodic
The property of a dynamical system such that all regions of a phase space are visited with similar frequency and that all regions will be revisited (within a small proximity) if given enough time.

27 May 2012

This day in history: The Queen Mary made her maiden voyage, on the Southampton-Cherbourg-New York route, on 27 May 1936. The passenger accommodation emphasised the first two classes, cabin and tourist. The propulsion machinery of the ship produced a massive 160,000 SHP and gave it a speed of over 30 knots. Despite expectations that the ship would try to break speed records on its first voyage a thick fog destroyed any hope of this. The Queen Mary spent a short time in drydock during July whilst adjustments were made to the propellers and turbines. When the ship returned to service, in August, it made a record voyage from Bishop's Rock to Ambrose light and took the Blue Riband from the Normandie. read more
