Look up: dithering

  1. Dithering
The introduction of digital noise. This is the process the Department of Defense (DoD) uses to add inaccuracy to GPS signals to induce Selective Availability.

  2. Dithering
A method of approximating colours, details ...

  3. dithering
[n] - the process of representing intermediate colors by patterns of tiny colored dots that simulate the desired color
    Found on http://www.webdictionary.co.uk/definitio

  4. Dithering
when displaying a picture on a computer screen in, say, a 256 colour mode, it is possible to give the impression of intermediate colours by mixing dots of the different colours in different ratios - this is done using a random displacement of these dots to avoid a patterned effect. This technique is called dithering

  5. Dithering
The Mixing of colours to appear that there are more colours displayed than are actually present.

  6. Dithering
Utilised when images are reduced from 24-bit to 8-bit colour. The dithering algorithm combines pixels of adjacent colours into a dot pattern, simulating unavailable colours. It reduces the posterisation effect that colour depth reduction can create. Photoshop offers two dithering options - the best is Diffusion Dithering.

  7. Dithering
The technique of adding controlled amounts of noise to a signal to improve overall system loop control, or to smear quantizing error in an A/D convertor application.

  8. dithering
a screen technique used to produce a coloured image by the superposition of points from the three primary colours Category: Automation (includes telecommunications and computers) • the technique of adding controlled amounts of noise to a signal to improve overall system loop control,or t...

  9. Dithering
Altering the values of adjacent dots or pixels on a digital output device to create the appearance of a increased number of tonal values or colours.

  10. dithering
noun the process of representing intermediate colors by patterns of tiny colored dots that simulate the desired color

  11. Dithering
Dithering is a technique for archiving 24-bit quality in 8 or 16-bit frame buffers. Dithering uses two colors to create the appearance of a third, giving a smooth appearance to an otherwise abrupt transition.

  12. Dithering
In digital audio engineering dithering is a mathematical process where a random noise is added to the least significant bit of a digital word. With very low level signals, the quantization error becomes correlated to the signal level. This creates a measurable amount of distortion. By adding dither,...

  13. dithering
(data, algorithm) A technique used in quantisation processes such as graphics and audio to reduce or remove the correlation between noise and signal. Dithering is used in computer graphics to create additional colors and shades from an existing palette by interspersing pixels of different colours. ...

10 February 2012

This day in history:
On 10th February 1996, a computer, Deep Blue, beat Russian Garry Kasparov, the greatest chess player on the planet, and mankind’s place in the order of things was reshuffled. The match immediately became an iconic symbol of the advances made in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. Kasparov has since retired, like Deep Blue, which now resides in a museum. He has become a vocal advocate for democracy in today’s Russia. read more
