   Differential routing. Mechanism defining how IP packets are classified and marked to receive a particular per-hop forwarding behavior on routing nodes along their path. Typically used to differentiate delay-sensitive traffic such as VoIP (Voice over IP) from interactive traffic such as web browsing and delay-insensitive traffic such as email. Defined by IETF RFC 2475. Architecture for Differentiated Services. A level of service is allocated to a traffic stream on entry to a differentiated services-capable network - this governs how that traffic is forwarded within that network.
