Look up: chelation

  1. Chelation
The trapping of a multi-valent ionic species by ionic bonding to a larger water soluble molecule so as to render the ion inactive in the biological matrix and to aid excretion.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/visitor-contrib

  2. chelation
[n] - (medicine) the process of removing a heavy metal from the bloodstream by means of a chelate as in treating lead or mercury poisoning 2. [n] - the process of forming a ring by forming one or more hydrogen bonds

  3. Chelation
Using a chelating agent that will bind with metals in order to try to release them from the body. With autism, this might be done in order to test for mercury levels.
    Found on http://www.insidethebubble.co.uk/glossar

  4. chelation
The formation or presence of bonds (or other attractive interactions) between two or more separate binding sites within the same ligand and a single central atom. A molecular entity in which there is chelation (and the corresponding chemical species) is called a 'chelate'. The terms bidentate (or di...

  5. Chelation
In chemistry, this describes the combination of a metallic ion with heterocyclic ring structures in such a way that the ion is held by bonds from each of the rings.

  6. Chelation
In chemistry, this describes the combination of a metallic ion with heterocyclic ring structures in such a way that the ion is held by bonds from each of the rings.

  7. chelation
A chemical process involving formation of a heterocyclic ring compound that contains at least one metal cation or hydrogen ion in the ring.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/local/20742

  8. Chelation
Chemical means of removing heavy metals, such as mercury from the body. Some people believe that autism is caused by an excess of heavy metals in people with autism.

  9. chelation
the process whereby certain organic molecules combine firmly with metallic ions to form chelates Category: agriculture, fisheries, forestry - food processing industries
    Found on http://www.mijnwoordenboek.nl/definition

  10. chelation
Binding of a metal ion by a larger molecule such as EDTA or protein (iron in haem is held as a chelate). The binding is strong but reversible and chelating agents can be used to buffer the free concentration of the ion in question.

  15. Chelation
Chelation is the formation or presence of two or more separate coordinate bonds between a polydentate (multiple bonded) ligand and a single central atom. Usually these ligands are organic compounds, and are called chelants, chelators, chelating agents, or sequestering agents. The ligand forms a che...

This day in history: The Queen Mary made her maiden voyage, on the Southampton-Cherbourg-New York route, on 27 May 1936. The passenger accommodation emphasised the first two classes, cabin and tourist. The propulsion machinery of the ship produced a massive 160,000 SHP and gave it a speed of over 30 knots. Despite expectations that the ship would try to break speed records on its first voyage a thick fog destroyed any hope of this. The Queen Mary spent a short time in drydock during July whilst adjustments were made to the propellers and turbines. When the ship returned to service, in August, it made a record voyage from Bishop's Rock to Ambrose light and took the Blue Riband from the Normandie. read more
