Look up: catalyst

  1. Catalyst
A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction without being consumed itself in the reaction. A substance that alters (usually increases) the rate at which a reaction occurs.
    Found on http://home.nas.net/~dbc/cic_hamilton/di

  2. catalyst
    substance that causes speeding up
    Found on http://www.graduateshotline.com/list.htm

  3. Catalyst
Compound that accelerates the rate of a chemical reaction, and is not itself consumed in the reaction.
    Found on http://www.kcpc.usyd.edu.au/discovery/gl

  4. Catalyst
A substance that changes the speed or yield of a chemical reaction without being consumed or chemically changed by the chemical reaction.
    Found on http://www.epa.gov/OCEPAterms/

  5. Catalyst
A substance that promotes a chemical reaction by lowering the activation energy of a chemical reaction, but which itself remains unaltered at the end of the reaction. (See Catalytic antibody, Catalytic RNA.)
    Found on http://filebox.vt.edu/cals/cses/chagedor

  6. Catalyst
The speeding up of a chemical reaction by lowering the activation energy, often through addition of a substance that accelerates the reaction but is not used up in the reaction.

  7. catalyst
    [Noun] Something that causes change.
Example: The new manager had been a real catalyst in turning the company around.

  8. catalyst
[n] - (chemistry) a substance that initiates or accelerates a chemical reaction without itself being affected 2. [n] - something that causes an important event to happen
    Found on http://www.webdictionary.co.uk/definitio

  9. Catalyst
A catalyst speeds up a chemical process, but usually does not itself get used up or changed chemically. Vitamin B6 is a catalyst for various body metabolism processes.

  10. Catalyst
a substance which increases the rate of a chemical reaction without being consumed in the reaction
    Found on http://www.oasisenviro.co.uk/Glossary%20

  11. Catalyst
Substance that speeds up a chemical process without actually changing the products of reaction. It lowers the activation energies of both, the forward and the reverse reaction. A catalyst provides a different pathway for a reaction. It may appear in a rate law. A catalyst does not change thermodynam...

  12. catalyst
A substance that participates in a particular chemical reaction and thereby increases its rate but without a net change in the amount of that substance in the system. At the molecular level, the catalyst is used and regenerated during each set of microscopic chemical events leading from a molecular ...

  13. Catalyst
a substance which without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change, facilitates or enables a reaction between other substances.
    Found on http://www.bio-power.co.uk/glossary.htm

  14. Catalyst
A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction without being consumed itself in the reaction.A substance that alters (usually increases) the rate at which a reaction occurs.
    Found on http://www.allchemicals.info/index/actio

  15. Catalyst
A substance that changes the rate at which a reaction equilibrium is attained, without itself being consumed. Catalysts can increase the rate of reaction (positive catalysts) or decrease them (negative catalysts or inhibitors).
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/visitor-contrib

  16. catalyst
catalyze; catalysis. A substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction, without being consumed or produced by the reaction. Catalysts speed both the forward and reverse reactions, without changing the position of equilibrium. Enzymes are catalysts for many biochemical reactions.
    Found on http://antoine.frostburg.edu/chem/senese

  17. catalyst
Catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any permanent chemical change. Catalyst that have the same phase as the reactants are homogenous catalysts (e.g. enzymes in biochemical reactions). Those that have a different phase are heterogeneous cat...

  18. Catalyst
a substance that alters the velocity of a chemical reaction and may be recovered essentially unaltered in form and amount at the end of the reaction.
    Found on http://www.chemicalglossary.net/definiti

  19. Catalyst
A substance which increases the rate of a chemical reaction, but itself remains unchanged at the end of the reaction.
    Found on http://www.chemicalglossary.net/definiti

  20. Catalyst
A substance that changes the rate at which a reaction equilibrium is attained, without itself being consumed. Catalysts can increase the rate of reaction (positive catalysts) or decrease them (negative catalysts or inhibitors).

  25. Catalyst
A substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction by reducing the activation energy, but which is left unchanged by the reaction. A catalyst works by providing a convenient surface for the reaction to occur. The reacting particles gather on the catalyst surface and either collide more frequ...

13 February 2012

This day in history:
The fifth queen of Henry VIII was Catherine Howard. Her father was very poor, and Catherine lived mainly with Agnes, widow of the 2nd duke of Norfolk. Henry was evidently charmed by her and he was privately married to Catherine at Oatlands in July 1540. In November 1541 Archbishop Thomas Cranmer informed Henry that his queen's past life had not been stainless. After some denials the queen herself admitted that this was true; but denied that she had misconducted herself since her marriage. Some fresh information, however, very soon came to light showing that she had been unchaste since her marriage; a bill of attainder was passed through parliament, and on the 13th of February 1542 the queen was beheaded. read more
