    Secure shell, an IPS protocol supporting secure remote login. SSH operates over TCP, authenticating and then encrypting a session. SSH is a secure alternative to telnet but can also be used as a secure mechanism for ftp, SNMP and remote execution of programs. SSH is often used in the Unix community but SSL is more widely used. SSH IPsec, by contrast, is typically used wholesale to support a VPN (Virtual Private Network) service.

This day in history:
On 10th February 1996, a computer, Deep Blue, beat Russian Garry Kasparov, the greatest chess player on the planet, and mankind’s place in the order of things was reshuffled. The match immediately became an iconic symbol of the advances made in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. Kasparov has since retired, like Deep Blue, which now resides in a museum. He has become a vocal advocate for democracy in today’s Russia. read more
