Just as the loading and unloading of the crust by ice will cause isostatic depression and uplift, loading and unloading of ocean basins deforms the crust. Because the local magnitude of sea level change (<200 m) is much less than that by ice (>5000 m), hydroisostasy is a very subtle deformation.
