Lat. The military service owed by a vassal to his lord. Five types were recognized: the defense of the lord's castle; the ransom of the lord, if he was taken captive; the costs of the knighthood of his eldest son; the costs of the marriage of his eldest daughter; participation with the lord in a Crusade.
