andabate

A type of gladiator who was fully armoured, and who wore a helmet without eye-holes or other apertures, and thus had to fight blind, a practice the spectators apparently found highly amusing. They would usually fight from horseback and charge blindly at each other, which made their mode of fighting even more difficult and dangerous.

andabate

andabate Someone who is hoodwinked or who exists in the dark or is virtually blind to the realities of a situation.
