maccabi

The umbrella body for an international network of Jewish youth clubs. Also refers to many of the national constituent bodies or the youth clubs themselves. Named after the Maccabi revolt against the Romans in the first century BC, it seeks to rekindle the strong spirit and physical fitness that won the Jews their legendary victory.
