Protein product of the gene mutated in ataxia telangiectasia (AT), a member of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase family. ATM constitutively binds to the SH3 domain of the tyrosine kinase c-Abl in normal but not AT cells and ATM seems to activate DNA-damage induced activation of c-Abl (which is deficient in AT cells).
Abbreviation for 'Automatic Telling Machine', or cash machine.
asynchronous transfer mode; a network architecture that divides messages into fixed-size units (cells) and establishes a switched connection between the originating and receiving stations; enables transmission of various types of data (video, audio, etc.) over the same line without one data type dominating the transmission.
Asynchronous Transfer Mode. A transmission and switching technique, capable of supporting voice, video and data communications. Each piece of information is addressed and is of the same length. This allows very high-speed communications.
Asynchronous Transfer Mode, The ITU standard for `cell relay` - information for multiple types of services (voice, video, data) is conveyed in small, fixed size, data blocks called `cells` (a mobile network cell is a very different concept!), used for multi-megabit corporate data services.

(In topic `Network Architectures`) ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is a network technology based on transmitting data in small, fixed size packets (or ‘cells`) of 53 bytes. With its ability to transmit video, audio and computer data over the same network, ATM is of considerable interest as a multimedia transport technology. Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/local/20477

Asynchronous Transfer Mode - this is an aproach to network design characterised by a number of features - firstly, data to be transmitted is broken into a sequence of FIXED size packets, each of which contain enough information to allow the packet to be routed to its destination - secondly, ATM uses 'virtual circuits' whereby, before any data can b...Found on http://www.archivemag.co.uk/

ATM: Symbol for the ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM) gene. The protein made by the ATM gene functions to control the rate at which cells grow. The ATM protein does this by sending signals and modifying proteins in the cell, which then alters the function of the proteins. This protein also interacts with other proteins (for example BRCA1) to resp...Found on http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=33058
