If a customer comes in asking for money from their account the bank must honour it. Money in accounts at the bank is therefore a liability to the bank. Liabilities can be summarised as 'money owed'.

This day in history:
On 10th February 1996, a computer, Deep Blue, beat Russian Garry Kasparov, the greatest chess player on the planet, and mankind’s place in the order of things was reshuffled. The match immediately became an iconic symbol of the advances made in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. Kasparov has since retired, like Deep Blue, which now resides in a museum.
