   IPsec
   secure IP - an extension to the IP packet header to provide secure communications. This gives it the ability to encrypt any higher layer protocol, including TCP and UDP. Other secure interconnection mechanisms in the IP world are SSH and SSL. IPsec is not a tunnelling protocol in the strict sense and it must be embedded in the IP implementation, which almost always means it, and its key management, must reside in the operating system.
