Look up: insulator

  1. Insulator
    Poor electric and heat conductor.
    Found on http://home.nas.net/~dbc/cic_hamilton/di

  2. insulator
[n] - a material such as glass or porcelain with negligible electrical or thermal conductivity
    Found on http://www.webdictionary.co.uk/definitio

  3. Insulator
[pronounce: ins-you-lay-ter] A material that does not let energy flow through it.
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/local/20442

  4. Insulator
A substance such as glass, air, plastic, etc., that will (for all practical purposes) not conduct electricity.
    Found on http://www.testing1212.co.uk/a.htm

  5. Insulator
A material which does not usually conduct electricity. Air, for example is an insulator. Insulators have a very high (ideally infinite) resistance. Given a suitably high voltage, insulators can be forced to conduct - take for example lightning during a thunderstorm. See also conductors and semi-conductors
    Found on http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/computing/

  6. Insulator
Any material which is very poor at conducting an electrical current (eg rubber, plastics etc). Opposite of 'conductor'. See also resistance.

  7. Insulator
A material that does not allow the passage of electric charge or is a poor conductor of thermal energy. Ceramics are good insulators. A nonmetallic material that has filled valence band at 0 K and a relatively wide energy band gap.

  8. Insulator
    Poor electric and heat conductor.
    Found on http://www.allchemicals.info/index/actio

  9. insulator
Insulator is a material in which the highest occupied energy band (valence band) is completely filled with electrons, while the next higher band (conduction band) is empty. Solids with an energy gap of 5 eV or more are generally considered as insulators at room temperature. Their conductivity is less than 10-6 S/m and increases with temperature.

  10. insulator
An insulator is a medium through which an electrical current* will not flow.
    Found on http://www.gcse.com/glos.htm

  11. Insulator
A material which strongly resists the flow of electrons through it. The rubber on an electrical cord provides an insulator for the wires. By covering the wires, the electricity cannot go through the rubber and is forced to follow the path of the wires.
    Found on http://www.electricfence-online.co.uk/is

  12. Insulator
An object or material that, by the property of high resistance, insulates the surround material from usually high voltage electricity. In more general terms, a non-conductor of electricity, sound or heat.
    Found on http://www.mhs.ox.ac.uk/marconi/collecti

  13. insulator
A non-metallic material designed to prevent current flow.
    Found on http://www.ami.ac.uk/courses/topics/0100

  14. insulator
1)In electricity, a material used to prevent the passage of current between two conductive bodies; 2)in thermodynamics, a material used to prevent the passage of heat for safety, or to prevent the loss of heat for economy Category: Management in the public and private sector • a substanc...

10 February 2012

This day in history:
On 10th February 1996, a computer, Deep Blue, beat Russian Garry Kasparov, the greatest chess player on the planet, and mankind’s place in the order of things was reshuffled. The match immediately became an iconic symbol of the advances made in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. Kasparov has since retired, like Deep Blue, which now resides in a museum. He has become a vocal advocate for democracy in today’s Russia. read more
