  1. fission
splitting or division (esp. of cells)
    Found on http://www.graduateshotline.com/list.htm

  2. fission
Division of single-celled organisms, especially prokaryotes, in which mitosis does not occur. Also used to refer to mitosis in certain unicellular fungi.

  4. Fission
Transverse splitting in two of bacterial cells, asexual.

  5. Fission
(Nuclear) Fission is the process where a heavy nuclei (e.g. U-235) decays by splitting into two equal fragments (fission fragments). This process proceeds with the emission of Neutrons and Gamma Rays , the neutrons being available to initiated further fissions and thus a nuclear chain reaction. Some...

  6. fission
[n] - reproduction of some unicellular organisms by division of the cell into two more or less equal parts 2. [n] - a nuclear reaction in which a massive nucleus splits into smaller nuclei with the simultaneous release of energy

  7. Fission
The splitting of a heavy nucleus into two or more lighter nuclei, releasing a large amount of energy. See also: Critical Chain Reaction, Frisch, Otto, Fusion, Nuclear Reaction.

  8. Fission
The splitting of a heavy nucleus into two, accompanied by the release of a relatively large amount of energy and usually one or more neutrons. It may be spontaneous but usually is due to a nucleus absorbing a neutron and thus becoming unstable
    Found on http://www.encyclo.co.uk/local/20725

  9. fission
nuclear fission. A nuclear reaction in which an atomic nucleus breaks into smaller nuclei of comparable mass, releasing a large amount of energy.
    Found on http://antoine.frostburg.edu/chem/senese

  10. Fission
The process in which heavy nuclei split to form lighter nuclei.

  11. fission
The splitting of an atomic nucleus. This is what is done in nuclear reactors. A neutron is absorbed by the nucleus (making the nucleus unstable) which then splits into two smaller nuclei. For nuclei larger than iron, this process releases energy.

  12. Fission
The splitting of a heavy nucleus into two, accompanied by the release of a relatively large amount of energy and usually one or more neutrons. It may be spontaneous but usually is due to a nucleus absorbing a neutron and thus becoming unstable.

  14. Fission
The splitting of a heavy nucleus into two, accompanied by the release of a relatively large amount of energy and generally one or more neutrons. It may be spontaneous but usually is due to a nucleus absorbing a neutron.

13 February 2012

This day in history:
The fifth queen of Henry VIII was Catherine Howard. Her father was very poor, and Catherine lived mainly with Agnes, widow of the 2nd duke of Norfolk.
