Look up: evaporation

  1. Evaporation
In meteorology, the change of liquid water or ice to water vapour. In certain usages the term signifies only the liquid to vapour phase change, as distinct from sublimation which signifies the solid to vapour change. The rate of evaporation is controlled by the water and energy (mainly solar radiation) supplies and the ability to take up more water.

  2. Evaporation
The process where liquid water turns into vapour, apparently disappearing. e.g. a rain puddle may evaporate when the sun comes out - it is the opposite of 'condensation'.

  7. Evaporation
The physical process by which a liquid, such as water is transformed into a gaseous state, such as water vapor. 18. Evaporation
The physical process by which a liquid or solid substance is transformed to the gaseous state; the opposite of condensation. In meteorology, evaporation usually is restricted in use to the change of water from liquid to gas, while sublimation is used to the change from solid to gas as well as from gas to solid.

  19. Evaporation
Evaporation can be defined as the process by which liquid water is converted into a gaseous state. Evaporation can only occur when water is available. It also requires that the humidity of the atmosphere be less than the evaporating surface (at 100% relative humidity there is no more evaporation). T...
