DMSO

Dimethyl sulphoxide. Much used as a solvent for substances that do not dissolve easily in water and that are to be applied to cells (for example cytochalasin B, formyl peptides), also as a cryoprotectant when freezing cells for storage. It is used clinically for the treatment of arthritis, although its efficacy is disputed.
